Doe v. Delaware County et al.: Delaware County Correctional Facility Settles with Former Inmate

Mar 9, 2024

PHILADELPHIA – The GEO Group and Delaware County have agreed to a settlement with a man who sued George W. Hill Correctional Facility after he was unlawfully barred from working in the kitchen and faced discrimination as a result of his HIV status being improperly disclosed.

The settlement will end a lawsuit filed in April 2022 and require that the George W. Hill Correctional Facility and Delaware County change its policies to comply with privacy and discrimination laws.

The case is Doe v. Delaware County et al., docketed at 2:22-cv-01405 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Mary Catherine Roper and John Grogan of Langer Grogan & Diver partnered with Ronda B. Goldfein and Adrian M. Lowe of AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania and Richard Saenz of the Lambda Legal Defense Fund.

“We are proud to have been part of obtaining this result and of the changes that will protect other people in Delaware County from discrimination,” said Mary Catherine Roper.
