Speaking Freely Podcast: Stop-and-Frisk Is A Failed Public Policy

Apr 14, 2023

Mary Catherine Roper, former deputy legal director of the ACLU of PA, joined Rev. Mark Tyler of POWER and Yahaira Galarza, a community ambassador for ACLU-PA, in a conversation about stop-and-frisk in Philadelphia on the Speaking Freely with ACLU-PA podcast.

Since 2011, the ACLU of Pennsylvania and co-counsel from the law firm Kairys Rudovsky Messing Feinberg and Lin have been enforcing a settlement in which the city promised to end the aggressive, illegal, and unconstitutional use of stop-and-frisk by Philadelphia police.

Philadelphia mayoral and council candidates are once again touting the racially biased police tactic, and some candidates have suggested that escalating its use against pedestrians in the city should be on the table as a public safety measure.
